The Uttar Pradesh Police arrested a 62-year-old man from Chennai on Saturday for allegedly making disparaging comments about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, The news reported.
The arrested person, identified as Manmohan Mishra, is from the Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh but had moved to Chennai about 35 years ago, police said.
Some unidentified people had filed a complaint at Kotwali Police Station in Uttar Pradesh, opposing videos Mishra posted on his YouTube channel, The new Indian express reported. The videos were popular in Uttar Pradesh as Mishra spoke in Hindi.
âManmohan works as an agent to obtain PAN cards and Aadhaar cards,â said an unidentified policeman. The new Indian express. “He is reportedly very active on social media and often posts videos on YouTube criticizing the Union government and Modi.”
In most of his videos, Mishra had criticized the Bharatiya Janata party government for its handling of the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic. In another video, he said Modi should step down because he failed to help people during the health crisis.
Arul Santhosa Muthu, deputy commissioner at Madhavaram Police Station in Chennai, said a team of officers from Uttar Pradesh arrived in Chennai on Friday, The news reported.
The Madhavaram Magistrates’ Court granted pre-trial detention to the Uttar Pradesh police. After a medical examination, Mishra was taken to Uttar Pradesh. However, the charges against him are not yet known.
