It could be just us, but somehow music videos always manage to scratch an itch that we never know we have, until we have it, and we have to watch it like 5 in a row. Luckily for us, the recently released list of the best YouTube music videos in Canada for 2021 will have us dancing all day, featuring (obviously) some of the biggest songs to be released this year. It doesn’t hurt that the production quality is off the charts either…
1. TheWeekndVEVO, The Weeknd – Save Your Tears (official music video)
It’s only fitting that two Canadian artists have landed in the top two spots for Canadian viewers this year. And honestly, The Weeknd kinda got ahead of all those crazy masks used for Squid Game later that year. Was it meant to be entertainment? We hope.
2. JustinBieberVEVO, Justin Bieber – Peaches ft. Daniel Caesar, Giveon
Right next to The Weeknd comes Justin Bieber, with another Canadian name – Daniel Caesar. Full disclosure, we didn’t expect him to swear in the chorus of this song. But then again, we’re still caught up in this superstar’s “Baby” days.
3. LilNasXVEVO, Lil Nas X – MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name) (Official Video)
Whatever ideas that Old Town Road was going to be a single blockbuster wonder were quickly put to bed with the release of Montero. We’re thrilled because we believe this groundbreaking artist has a long career ahead of him, creating any type of music that suits him.
4. OliviaRodrigoVEVO, Olivia Rodrigo – driving license (official video)
Olivia Rodrigo has really exploded onto the scene this year, amassing tens of millions of followers on a variety of social media. At just 18 years old, Rodrigo has managed to land back-to-back spots on this list, with some real catchy tunes that, we admit, make us think of high school.
5. OliviaRodrigoVEVO, Olivia Rodrigo – good 4 u (Official Video)
6. HYBE LABELS, BTS (방탄소년단) ‘Butter’ Official MV
BTS has become a global phenomenon, as the unofficial face of K-Pop around the world. It’s the fashion, it’s the dance, it’s the ability to transition between English and Korean (often in the same song). There’s a truth that these guys are selling stadiums no matter what country they’re in…
7. Bruno Mars, Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak, Silk Sonic – Leave the door open [Official Video]
That’s practically cheating, because Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak would likely land on this list on their own. But together? Recreating those silky smooth sounds of the 70s and 80s? Come on, we never had any luck with this one.
8. Pooh Shiesty, Pooh Shiesty – Back in the Blood (feat. Lil Durk) [Official Music Video]
Ok, we’re actually surprised that this made it to the list. Memphis rapper Pooh Shiesty and Chicago heavyweight Lil Durk bring a barebones beat to life with this music video, and of course, it features one of the most used ad-libs of the entire year. What to say, except that Gucci Mane does not fail to unearth new talents?
9. dojacatVEVO, Doja Cat – Kiss Me More (Official Video) ft. SZA
Total honesty – it’s the song we’ve personally listened to the most on this list. The magnificent voice of SZA combined with the unique style of Doja Cat? It’s an easy yes on our part. Pair that with a standout music video that reminds us of Fantastic Planet, and we’re sold.
10. PoloGVEVO, Polo G – RAPSTAR (Official Video)
Hey, another Chicago rapper on the list! Polo G may have roots in drill music, but quickly took a melodic approach to the genre that propelled him to the top of the charts. At just 22 years old, Polo G is just getting started.
These are the best YouTube music videos in Canada this year! For next year, maybe we’re thinking of Taylor Swif, maybe even Drake??? Time will tell, however!
