The best things in Amarillo that we don’t need more from YouTube videos

Go to YouTube, type in Amarillo, TX and you get a ton of results. There is a pretty good variety to choose from. We have everything from personal vlogs to car dealerships that upload vehicles of the latest models to land on their lot. Here are the main things we no longer need from YouTube videos.

Cadillac Ranch

How many different ways can you get to a piece of land and film cars covered in graffiti? There are so much “What to do in Amarillo” videos, and each one features Cadillac Ranch. We need videos of all the other wacky art installations in town. The feelings of Floating Mesa must be hurt now.

The Big Texan 72oz Steak Challenge

The Big Texan is really big on YouTube. Look out for Amarillo, and aside from the half-buried cars, you’d think all we have to offer is a serving of finely grilled beef from a glutton. I lost count of how many videos I saw on YouTube just by searching for the name of our city, and the best result is someone drinking meat.

Palo Duro Canyon

This one is a bit tricky. I would love to see more videos of the lesser known trails and things to see. There are caves in Palo Duro Canyon that I have yet to see videos of. You know what there’s a ton of videos on? Lighthouse. Every hiker with a GoPro and a YouTube account walked to the lighthouse.

There is much more going on in and around Amarillo than these three things. I would love to see more videos highlighting them.

Amarillo Landmarks: negative reviews on Yelp

Yelp can be a strange and angry place. This is what I discovered recently when I decided to sort reviews first by “lowest rating”.

I was okay with people upset about bad service and whatnot. But I did come across a few reviews that, for lack of a better word, left me speechless in their scathing negative reviews of some of Amarillo’s most iconic places. Prepare for a lot of nods and “I don’t know” shrugs.
