11 Best Amazon Music Playlists to Ask Alexa to Play for You Right Now

I don’t know about you, but all too often I find myself in a musical rut.

I am struck by the urge to listen to a certain type of music, to listen to said music nonstop for weeks or even months, I find that I can’t stand said music anymore and I end up flipping through the playlists Spotify and stalking my friends’ music choices for an unbearable time until I stumble upon my next lyrical obsession.

Please allow me to digress for a moment …

When I first tried Tinder, all I wrote in my profile was, “I’m sick of my current music. What do you got for me? It did wonders for the dual purpose of increasing matches and developing a new playlist (which I’m fed up with now).

You’re welcome.

Anyone, since a good chunk of people I know now use Amazon’s Echo or Echo Dot to organize their home, life, shopping and entertainment choices, I thought it would be worth taking a look at what Alexa could do for me and my musical boredom.

Because I am chic like that.

It turns out that there are a huge number of options!

For those of you who are new to Alexa, here is the explanation from Amazon the way “she” works:

“Alexa lets you ask questions and make requests using just your voice. For example, you can ask Alexa a question, such as “What’s the weather like today in New York?” Or tell Alexa to do something, like “Add batteries to my shopping list” or “Play jazz.” When you talk to Alexa, a recording of what you asked Alexa is sent to the cloud. ‘Amazon so that we can process and respond to your request.

“You access Alexa differently depending on the type of device you’re using. For “hands-free” devices, such as Amazon Echo, you access Alexa by saying the wake word (Alexa, Echo, Amazon or computer). For other devices, like some Fire tablets, you access Alexa with the push of a button. “

Help categories provided by Alexa include:

  • Music and entertainment
  • Call and messaging
  • News and information
  • Questions and answers
  • Help around the house
  • Smart home
  • Fun and games
  • Purchases
  • Alexa skills

So back to the playlist dilemma, I fished a bit …

According to Amazon (again), you can “add music to your playlists anytime in the Amazon Music app”.

Sounds damn easy, and not only that, but it turns out that selecting a playlist someone else has already created through Alexa is even easier than I thought!

All you have to do is say “Alexa!” and then, “Play [whatever playlist you want] playlist. “And voila! Music!

From there you can do all kinds of things, from shuffling a playlist to repeating a song to – trumpets, please! – ask Alexa to kick off a song you’re sick of!
